Curious how I spend my day as a freelance writer? Here are a few fun interviews.

Hello editors, publishers and fellow travelers...

I'm a professional writer and anthropologist passionate for European and Mediterranean cultures. Widely published in travel, food and wine, outdoors and adventure, spiritual, and cross-cultural topics, I have lived and traveled in the diverse cultures of Europe, the circum-Mediterranean, and the Middle East, as well as across North America. I currently divide my year between Europe and the USA.

I write travel narratives, guides, memoirs, and essays for books and magazines, both print and online. I have two travel books, The Spiritual Traveler: Spain and Historic Walking Guides: Madrid, and my work appears in The Best Women's Travel Writing 2010, Wine Enthusiast, Archaeology, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Transitions Abroad, Perceptive Traveler, Brave New Traveler, Dog Wonderful, Expedition, The Bark, Matador Trips, The Expeditioner, Michelin Green Guides, and National Geographic books.

I also write travel apps. The Esoteric Camino France & Spain and Madrid Walks are two of my apps, both published by Sutro Media.

Prior to becoming a full time writer, I was a university professor, an ethnographic consultant, and a magazine editor. (I continue to work as a freelance editor and as an ethnographic consultant.) My doctorate in anthropology, from the University of Pennsylvania, trained me in the cultures, languages, peoples, prehistory and history of the Mediterranean world. This specialty feeds my present passions and I write most on travel, food and wine, adventures, spirituality, and the people and cultures of France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

I'm a member The American Society of Journalists and Authors and am represented by Laura Strachan of Strachan Literary Agency.
